Mezzosoprano Carolina Bengtsdotter Ljung grew up in Dalecarlia, Sweden. She received her education at Gothenburg Academy of Music and at the University College of Opera in Stockholm, where she graduated in 1995.
After her studies Carolina Bengtsdotter Ljung was engaged as a soloist at Nationaltheater Mannheim in Germany. Here she sang almost 30 roles, for example Rosina in Rossini´s ”Il barbiere di Siviglia”, Marcellina and Dritte Dame in ”Le nozze di Figaro” and “Die Zauberflöte” by Mozart, Magdalene in Wagner´s ”Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” as well as several parts in “Der Ring der Nibelungen”, Witwe Begbick in Kurt Weill´s "Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny" and Annina in "Der Rosenkavalier" by Richard Strauss. Carolina also had guest performances at the theaters in Darmstadt, Stuttgart, Saarbrücken and Luxembourg. She ended her engagement in Mannheim in June 2000 by singing the title role in Antonio Bibalo´s chamber opera “Fräulein Julie”.
In Sweden Carolina Bengtsdotter Ljung has appeared as Magd in Strauss´ “Elektra” at The Royal Opera in Stockholm and Erda in “Das Rheingold” and “Siegfried” by Wagner in Dalhalla. She sang Tjyv-Elin´s part in C. Unander-Scharin´s “Tokfursten” at the first performance with Vadstena Academy 1996 as well as in Vattnäs Concert Barn 2014.
Her repertoire for the concert platform includes the major sacred works by Bach, Handel, Mozart, Rossini and Verdi, as well as contemporary Swedish oratorios by F. Österling, J. Bohlin, F. Sixten and R. Martinsson.
Carolina Bengtsdotter Ljung has been awarded several major scholarships from The Royal Swedish Academy of Music and Drottningholms Slottsteater among others. In 1996 she received the Jussi Björling-Prize as well as the Bayreuth scholarship from the Swedish Richard Wagner Society.
Carolina Bengtsdotter Ljung lives in Falun where she is a regular soloist with the regional orchestras, and she is frequently engaged for concerts in the Dalecarlian churches. 2014, 2015 and 2016 she took part in the opera productions of Vattnäs Concert Barn with roles in “Tokfursten” (C. Unander-Scharin), “Silverfågeln” (M. Larsson Gothe) and Bizet´s “Carmen” (Mercedes) in Dalhalla.
