Fredrik Hagerberg is a 30-year-old operatic tenor from Malmö, Sweden. As a musician, Fredrik has a diverse background as a rock musician, composer, and pianist. He began his vocal training at S:t Sigfrid Folkhögskola and continued at Vadstena Folkhögskola. He later earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in classical singing from the Malmö Academy of Music.
During his studies, Fredrik performed as a singer and actor in no fewer than twelve opera productions, gaining substantial experience and stage presence. Among other engagements, he has worked as a chorister in Ystad Opera's Cavalleria Rusticana, Opera på Skäret’s Madama Butterfly, and Operafabriken’s Norma. In the spring of 2018, he appeared as an extra in Malmö Opera’s production of Rigoletto.
As a soloist, Fredrik has performed roles such as Altoum in Turandot with Jönköping Sinfonietta, The Modern Man in the world premiere of Jonatan Sersam’s Tinget, Tamino in The Magic Flute with Suitcase Opera, and Olof af Acrel in Kammaropera Syd’s Casanova.
In the spring of 2024, Fredrik graduated from Malmö Opera Academy, a master’s program in opera jointly run by Malmö Academy of Music and Malmö Opera. During his time there, he performed as a soloist in Malmö Opera’s season presentation tour, the operatic musical Vinteryra, and the operetta Maskerad.
Since graduating in 2024, Fredrik has worked as a soloist in Kammaropera Syd’s Gods and Goddesses and as Tamino in Strömstad Opera’s The Magic Flute. He also worked as an assistant director and performed the role of Death in Höör Summer Opera’s world premiere of the opera Vita Bron, composed by Josef Zetterberg, which was recently highlighted on the 2024 Opus List. In February 2025, Fredrik will return to Malmö Opera’s main stage as 4th Jew in their production of Strauss’s Salome.
Fredrik has also performed numerous art song recitals and sacred concerts. He has sung solo parts in Boccherini’s Stabat Mater, Handel’s Messiah, Saint-Saëns’s Christmas Oratorio, and Mozart’s Requiem. Together with organist Josefin Sundström, he toured Skåne and Finland in 2024 with Edith, a concert program supported by the Swedish Arts Council and the Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland. Edith exclusively features newly composed art songs by Erik Valdemar Sköld, Håkan Carlsson, Andrea Juni Ek, and Fredrik himself.
Fredrik has studied voice under Sabina Zweiacker, Ellinor Fryklund, Lena Hoel, Britta Johansson, and Valentin Lundin. He has also taken private lessons and participated in masterclasses with among others Peter Mattei, Anna Larsson, Irene Theorin, Susanne Resmark, Sten Sjöstedt, Elisabet Strid, Joachim Bäckström, and Lars Arvidsson.
During his studies, Fredrik received scholarships from numerous organizations, including Lasse Löhndahl’s Vocal Scholarship, the Kempe Carlgren Foundation, the Carl Erik Levin Foundation, the AAA Foundation, the Grand Amaranther Order Cultural Scholarship, the Sandrews Foundation, the Helge Ax:son Johnson Foundation, the Lindeh Foundation, the Royal Swedish Academy of Music’s local scholarships, the Rabioka Foundation, the Friends of the Opera in Ystad, the Kyrktornet Foundation, and the Uno Ebrelius Foundation.
