Marcus Jupither - Baritone
A native of Stockholm, Sweden and with his father working as a singer at the Royal Opera in Stockholm for more than 20 years he was very early mesmerized bu the magic of opera and singing. His first steps was his education both at the Royal Academy of Music and the operaschool in Stockholm. This led to his professional debut in 1995 as Don Giovanni directed by Johannes Schaaf at Confidencen, Ulriksdals Court theatre outside Stockholm.
This led to numerous engagements in all the swedish operahouses in part such as Figaro in Dario Fo ́s production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Malmö, Dunois in Orleyanska Deva at The Royal Opera in Stockholm as well as Carlo Gérard in Andrea Chénier,
Marcello in La Bohème and Escamillo in Carmen.
1999 he did the title part in Wozzeck at the Gothenburg opera which was a major break through for him and led to engagements in Prag which was followed by the festivals in Aix-En-Provence and Bergen and later on in Frankfurt, Mannheim, Karlsruhe, Riga, Oslo and Salzburg. There he has sung parts as: Hollander in Der fliegende Holländer, Alberich and Gunther in Der Ring des Nibelungen, Klingsor in Parsifal, Barak in Die Frau ohne Schatten, Orest in Elektra as well as Scarpia in Tosca as well as the title parts in Rigoletto and Macbeth.
He has also sung in contemporary operas such as Dr.Schön in Lulu and Macbeth in Jan Sandströms Macbeth2, a part that was written for him.
From 2011, when he did a succesful jump in as Alberich in Siegfried at the Opera Bastille in Paris, he then continued with his "usual" roles with some highlights as Barak in Die Frau ohne Schatten at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf as well as Alberich in a new " Ring" in Budapest and Luna in Il Trovatore making his US-debut in Sacramento.
Recent parts has been Sancho Panza in Don Quichotte and Leporello in Don Giovanni.
He did his directing debut in 2013 in a critically acclaimed "Das Rheingold" in the giant outdoor scene "Dalhalla" in Dalarna, Sweden.
Among the conductors that he has worked with in both concerts and opera is: Sir Colin Davis, Siegfried Köhler, Manfred Honeck, Michail Pletnev, Pier Giorgio Morandi, Christian Badea, Olaf Henzold, Muhai Tang, Thierry Fischer, Axel Kober, Sylvain Cambreling, Peter Halasz, Paul Daniel, Neeme Järvi, Ivor Bolton, Dan Ettinger, Justin Brown, Andris Nelsons, Cornelius Meister and Kent Nagano.
Among the directors that he has worked with is the swedes: David Radok, Staffan Valdemar Holm, Wilhelm Carlsson, Folke Abenius, Ann-Margret Pettersson, Sofia Jupither and Tobias Theorell as well as the international directors: Christoph Marthaler, Herbert Wernicke, Stefan Herheim, Geza M. Tooth, Viesturs Kariss & Dario Fo.
