The program will kick off with a program entirely dedicated to the French repertoire: psalm settings by the highly talented, prematurely deceased Lili Boulanger (Du fond de l'abîme, La terre appartient à l'Éternel) and her teacher Gabriel Fauré (Super flumina Babylonis). The focus of the evening will be Fauré's famous Requiem – a work of touching intimacy that treats the subject of death not as a threat, but as a peaceful transition into paradise. Hardly any other requiem in music history treats the afterlife with such reconciliation and hope.
