How much did Ferdinand Ries really learn from Beethoven? He was Beethoven's piano student, personal secretary but also a good friend. And certainly one can sense influences of the master's style in Rie's music. The relatively unknown Piano concerto Concerto Pastoral was written in Sweden and dedicated to Prince Oscar. An appealing opening of the concert is the Gävle premiere of Ida Moberg's "Sunrise".
Award-winning Francisca Skoogh is one of our leading Swedish pianists. After studying at the Royal Danish Music Conservatory and then at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where she received the prestigious 'Premiere Prix' in both chamber music and piano in 1994, she won the Soloist Prize in Stockholm in 1998 and received second prize in the Michelangeli competition in Italy 2000. Skoogh has collaborated with conductors such as Michail Jurowski, Thomas Dausgaard, Susanna Mälkki, Gianandrea Noseda and Leif Segerstam. For some years now, she has had an in-depth collaboration with the composer Staffan Storm and the court singer Anna Larsson. Skoogh is also a psychologist and gives courses and lectures.
