Our Kristoffer Töyrä as Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte at GöteborgsOperan

Die Zauberflöte Opera in two acts by W. A. Mozart (1756–1791). Libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder. Swedish translation Rikard Bergqvist. A magical production of Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’ for the whole family.

A blend of comedy, drama, animation and delightful music bring to life this fantastic journey through darkness and light, as Tamino sets out to find his Pamina.

The powerful Queen of the Night rules a realm of freely-flowing imagination – but her daughter Pamina has been kidnapped by their enemy, Sarastro. The stranger Tamino plunks down in the margins between the Queen’s and Sarastro’s opposing kingdoms – determined to help Pamina reach her independence. Along the way, he is aided by the eccentric Papageno, a set of magic chimes and an enchanted flute.

But who is truly good, and who is evil?

In this new production, we are transported to a spectacular dreamscape – a magical universe where anything can happen – filled with fanciful animated illusions by French video designer Grégoire Pont.

Mozart’s eternally youthful music balances playfulness and depth. Die Zauberflöte contains some of opera’s most iconic melodies—from the Queen of the Night’s dazzling aria to Papageno and Papagena’s playful duet, and Sarastro’s rumbling words of wisdom.
