Our soprano Sigrid Vetleseter Bøe as Musetta in La bohème at The Royal Opera in Stockholm. New Premiere Dec 15.
Inspired by Edvard Munch’s vibrant paintings, Hans Jæger’s stories about Kristiania bohemians and August Strindberg’s novel The Red Room, the celebrated tenor, director and conductor José Cura adds a spark of Nordic light to Puccini’s masterpiece by moving La bohème from Paris to a fictional Stockholm. The author Rodolfo becomes August Strindberg, the painter Marcello becomes Edvard Munch and the philosopher Colline becomes Søren Kierkegaard, the composer Schaunard becomes Edvard Grieg and the cabaret singer Musetta is modelled on Tulla Larsen. Already well acquainted with the score and libretto of this emotional, tragicomic drama, José Cura has created his very own Scandinavian Bohème for the Royal Swedish Opera.
