Premiere tonight for our splendid tenor Tobias Westman as Gernando in L’Isola disabitata by Haydn at Opera Dijon.

New production of the Opéra de Dijon L´Isola disabitata Joseph Haydn

A musical and dramatic gem, a sober and concentrated celebration of love. A quartet of voices of rich simplicity, to celebrate the joys of reunion and those of first times. The omnipresent orchestra bathes the shore of this deserted island with a clarity heralding romanticism.

The libretto of Métastase, without supporting or lingering, weaves together several poetic motifs from the Age of Enlightenment. The lost island of the South Seas where a young castaway has been languishing for thirteen years alongside her younger sister makes one think of those inhabited by the fantasy of Marivaux. Nothing like an island, in fact, to conduct social or sentimental experiences, away from the influences of the rest of the world. Costanza, the aptly named, despairs of never seeing her husband again: she is convinced that he has abandoned her, and has drawn the conclusion that all men are monsters. Already, she is carving her will on a rock… Silvia was too young to remember her previous life: life in the middle of nature is enough for her joy. When Gernando finally arrives, accompanied by his friend Enrico, he doesn't know if Costanza survived.

In partnership with the Académie de l'Opéra national de Paris and the Ravenna Festival .

The Dijon Opera thanks Frank-Emmanuel Barthe , luthier in Dijon, for the loan of a double bass.
