Our Agnes Auer returns to The Royal Opera in Sthlm for The Promise. Premiere Feb 23.
The Promise is based on real events. It was first performed on Holocaust Remembrance Day January 27, 2022. “In this production we are placed in a world outside time when the victims of war are taking their first stumbling steps in an attempt at recovering their humanity,” says librettist Susanne Marko. The Promise was commissioned by the Royal Swedish Opera in close collaboration with Marko and composer Mats Larsson Gothe.
A journey between dream and reality, hope and despair. The Promise is the story about Ava, who becomes separated from her husband Teo in a concentration camp. After the war she is determined to find him. We follow her in her search across war-torn, traumatised Europe, backed by a magnificent chorus and the invincible power of love.
